S.A.V.E. 501(c)(4) Advocacy Center

Recognize Social Work as
Professional Education

America depends on trained social workers in mental health care, veterans' services, child welfare, schools, hospitals, homelessness programs, aging services, crisis intervention, and community organizations.

S.A.V.E. supports federal policies that preserve affordable access to graduate social work education, appropriately recognize the professional education required for social work practice, reduce unnecessary dependence on less-protective private financing, and remove financial barriers that weaken the future social work workforce.

Policy Priorities

  • Preserve adequate federal financing options for graduate social work education.
  • Recognize graduate social work appropriately within federal professional-education policy.
  • Reduce unnecessary dependence on private student loans.
  • Protect education pathways into public-service professions.
  • Address workforce shortages by reducing avoidable financial barriers to professional education.
